American cowboys became all the rage in 1940s America. Crowds flocked to see them rope in calves and wrestle bulls. Their gruelling work needed hard-wearing trousers that looked great and kept them comfy during their shows. In stepped denim manufacturer Blue Bell and their commissioned tailor, Rodeo Ben.

A NAME FIT FOR COWBOYS

After 11 prototype pairs, Rodeo Ben had perfected his cowboy jeans. The Blue Bell workers took part in a competition to name his creations. The winning name was chosen for being synonymous with working cowboys and is now famous around the world.
It was, of course, Wrangler.
